When to hire public adjuster
FAQ

When should I hire a public adjuster in Florida?

The best time to hire a Florida public adjuster is before the carrier's first inspection: early documentation shapes the entire claim. But PAs can also be engaged after denial, after a lowball offer, for reopened or supplemental claims, or at appraisal. The Florida statutory deadline is 1 year for new/reopened claims and 18 months for supplemental claims.

Best: before the carrier's first inspection

Early documentation matters more than anything else in claim scope. A PA present at the initial inspection:

  • Documents damage the carrier adjuster might miss
  • Ensures scope conversations happen in Xactimate language
  • Sets expectations about timeline under Fla. Stat. 627.70131
  • Prevents premature acceptance of a low settlement

Good: after a denial or low offer

If the carrier has denied or underpaid, a PA can:

  • Reopen the claim with fresh documentation
  • Re-estimate in Xactimate to capture missing scope
  • Escalate through appraisal, mediation, or Civil Remedy Notice

Good: when the claim stalls

Missed statutory response deadlines are actionable. A PA can document the violations and escalate to DFS or counsel.

Time-limited: reopened and supplemental claims

Under Fla. Stat. 627.70132:

  • New or reopened claim: within 1 year of the date of loss
  • Supplemental claim: within 18 months of the date of loss

If your loss is approaching either deadline, act now.
