Short answer: In most circumstances, Florida carriers cannot cancel your policy mid-term over a single weather-related claim. Mid-term cancellation is allowed only for narrow reasons like non-payment, material misrepresentation, or a substantial increase in hazard. Non-renewal at the end of the policy period is more permissive, and carriers may non-renew after multiple claims or certain claim types.
Mid-term cancellation
Allowed only for narrow statutory reasons:
- Non-payment of premium
- Material misrepresentation
- Substantial increase in hazard
- Fla. Stat. 627.4133 governs
Non-renewal
At the end of the policy period, the carrier has broader discretion to non-renew with proper advance notice (typically 120 days for homeowners).

Practical reality
Carriers rarely cancel for a single claim but may non-renew after:
- Multiple claims in a short window
- Specific claim types (sinkhole, mold)
- Perceived adverse risk
