Short answer: The mold sublimit typically applies to mold-specific remediation. It does not apply to the covered water loss that caused the mold, or to resulting structural repairs, or to contents that were damaged by the underlying water.
What the sublimit actually covers
- Mold testing and sampling
- Containment and HEPA-filtered remediation
- Specific mold-remediation line-items
What the sublimit does NOT cover
- The covered water loss (repaired under dwelling coverage)
- Structural drying and dehumidification (mitigation)
- Drywall and flooring damaged by water (not by mold)
- ALE during the covered portion of the loss
- Contents damaged by the underlying water

Why this matters
A $10,000 sublimit sounds small, but if most of the scope is properly classified as water damage (not mold remediation), the sublimit is not binding on most of the claim.
