What's covered
ALE pays the difference between your normal living costs and your elevated costs while your home is uninhabitable. Typical covered expenses include:
- Hotel or temporary-rental accommodation
- Meals (over and above normal grocery spending)
- Additional transportation (if relocated far from work/school)
- Pet boarding
- Storage of belongings
What's not covered
- Your normal expenses (mortgage, normal utilities)
- Luxury upgrades beyond comparable housing
- Costs that aren't "reasonable and necessary"
How to document
Keep every receipt. Photograph the uninhabitable home. Track dates. Carrier-submitted ALE claims frequently get reduced for insufficient documentation: a public adjuster ensures the documentation supports the full claim.
