Glossary

Open Peril (All-Risk)

A coverage form covering any cause of loss that is not specifically excluded by the policy. The carrier bears the burden of proving an exclusion applies; on Florida HO-3 forms, dwelling coverage is typically open-peril.

How it works

The policy covers everything unless listed in the Exclusions section. Burden to prove exclusion is generally on the carrier.

Why it matters

Most modern Florida HO-3 and DP-3 forms are open peril on dwelling. HO-6 unit-owner policies vary.
