- Removed drywall: photographed and bagged
- Damaged flooring: samples retained
- Destroyed contents: inventoried and photographed
- HVAC components that failed: retained
Policy requirement
Most Florida policies require you to "cooperate in the investigation" and protect evidence. Disposal before inspection can breach this duty.

The balance with mitigation
You must mitigate damage (tarp the roof, extract water, etc.). But you are not required to remove materials before inspection unless they pose a safety hazard. Photograph extensively before any removal.
